Baixa
A district totally rebuilt after the terrible earthquake of 1755 on order of the Marquis of Pombal, one of the most controversial figures in the history of Portugal. He ordered the construction of a new checkerboard structure consisting of parallel and perpendicular streets. You still can witness it nowadays. This area is now home to many shops of all kinds.

Bairro Alto
A district perched on the hill of São Roques, formerly inhabited by the working class, used to spend good time at night to forget the harshness of Salazar’s dictatorial policy. This district is a particularly lively place. In other words, it is a real stronghold of creative artists, fashion shops, small retro-chic bars, restaurants, bars, and terraces.

Chiado
An emblematic historic district, a meeting place for high society in the 19th century. In 1988, a terrible fire swept through many buildings in this chic, intellectual district. It destroyed much of its architectural and cultural heritage. Therefore, every effort has been made to rebuild with the charm of yesteryear. Today, it’s a lively district full of fashion boutiques, designer shops, and bookshops.

Belém
A tribute to the exploits of the great navigators who set out in the 16th century searching for a new world. The fleets of Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral set sail from here in search of new routes to the Indies.

Park of Nations
An area that was completely redeveloped to host the 1998 Universal Exhibition on the theme of the Oceans. Since then, the area has been redesigned and redeveloped into ultra-modern, futuristic leisure and residential areas.
Monumental buildings include Europe’s largest Aquarium (Oceanarium), the Vasco de Gama Tower, and the Aquarium and Oriente Station.
