Some trips are planned with maps and calendars, while others spring from the heart, from a desire to experience something real, to discover a country not only with your eyes, but also with your soul.
This is how a French family (two adults and two teenagers) came to us: with the desire to get to know the essence of Portugal in depth, to experience the North and the Center in all their authenticity, without rushing, with time to be together and to let themselves be surprised.
For fifteen days, between the Douro, the Serra do Alvão, Porto, Aveiro, and the Serra da Estrela, we created a personalized and private itinerary that brought parents and children together on a journey made up of details, emotions, and bonds.
Each stage was designed as a chapter in a story and in each place a unique experience awaited them.
The beginning: the Douro and the harmony of the vineyards
The starting point was the Douro Valley, a setting of breathtaking beauty where the river winds its way through terraces covered with ancient vineyards.
There, the family enjoyed days of pure contemplation and discovery:
a private yacht trip at dawn, a picnic among the vineyards with local products, and a meeting with winegrowers who shared their passion and the legacy of generations.
The view of the vineyards on successive terraces is breathtaking, giving the impression of a hanging garden.
Between glasses of wine, laughter, and conversation, time took on a different rhythm, the rhythm of nature and good living.
Serra do Alvão: the authenticity of the mountains
From the serenity of the Douro, they continued on to Serra do Alvão, where granite and water form one of Portugal’s most authentic natural parks.
Guided by our local partner, they discovered almost untouched villages, tasted traditional cuisine, and listened to stories told by the fireplace.
It was a complete immersion in Portuguese rural life, marked by the simplicity and generosity of the people.
And because every trip needs adventure, the family rode e-bikes along the Tâmega eco-trail, crossing old bridges and forests, to the village of Amarante, where heritage and convent sweets sweetened the way.
Porto and the north: between fado and filigree
The trip continued to Porto, a city with a vibrant soul and strong identity, but first they made a stop in the cradle city, Guimarães.
On one of these stops, among narrow streets and viewpoints, the family discovered the balance between the old and the contemporary:
a private visit to the medieval city of Guimarães.
The city of Porto was visited in an original and exclusive way through several local gastronomic breaks, with our passionate partner guide.

Also in Porto, they took part in a handmade filigree workshop and enjoyed the magic of a candlelit Fado show.
While still in Porto, the family actively participated in a handmade filigree workshop, a traditional, delicate, and meticulous art of creating jewelry from fine gold and silver threads, very typical of the North.
Finally, as it is impossible to understand the Portuguese soul without having heard Fado singing at least once, the family was able to enjoy the magic of a candlelit Fado show in an arched room in the old premises of a church.
Aveiro: the serenity of the waters
After the hustle and bustle of the city, the trip headed to the sweetness of Aveiro, a city of soft light and golden reflections.
Between the charm of the Art Nouveau facades and the sweet taste of ovos moles, the family sailed aboard a private solar boat, gliding silently through the Ria at sunset.
The local guide revealed the stories of the salt marshes, migratory birds, and fishermen who still live to the rhythm of the tides.
It was a moment of calm and contemplation, where time seemed suspended over the water.
Serra da Estrela: the silence that speaks
The last chapter of the trip took them to the highest point in mainland Portugal, Serra da Estrela, a land of mountains, shepherds, and ancient traditions.
Staying in a beautiful hotel, between modern comfort and the purity of the landscape, they enjoyed days of rest and connection with nature.
There, where the air is lighter and the horizon wider, the family was able to appreciate once again the true meaning of what it means to travel with time.
