The Atlantic coast offers a wealth of remarkable fishing towns and villages (Nazaré, Torreira, Vagueira and Mira). Some of these villages still practice traditional fishing known as “Xávega.”
The Silver Coast is known for its beautiful white sand beaches stretching as far as the eye can see, living to the rhythm of the tides and delighting surfers (Ericeira, Nazaré, Peniche, Costa Nova and other towns).
Further inland, you find the majority of Portugal’s mountain ranges. Here, one can admire magnificent natural landscapes, waterfalls with crystal-clear waters, river beaches, and dense forests (Serra da Estrela, Serra do Caramulo, Serra do Açor, Serra da Lousã, and other mountains).
In the peaks and valleys lie historic granite villages and castles. Some have contributed to the defense of borders (Trancoso, Marialva, Belmonte, Piodão, and so on.). A bit further south, near Coimbra, impressive schist villages testify to the harshness of rural life in the past (Talasnal, Candal, Cerdeira, and so on).
Finally, visiting the Center of Portugal also means discovering a prosperous historical and cultural heritage. In other words, you can see beautiful monuments and cities classified as World Heritage sites (Batalha, Alcobaça, the Convent of Christ in Tomar, and Coimbra).
