The North region is renowned for its rich historical heritage and its gastronomic, artisanal and wine-making traditions. It offers a fabulous journey back in time with its magnificent medieval towns and villages, citadel castles and majestic fortresses.
The region is also famous for its many natural parks and breathtaking vineyard landscapes of the Douro Valley. Traditions have resisted so much to modern times that we can still admire some expert hands active proudly in filigree, pottery, embroidery and other handcraft works here.
Among the must-see cities in the North of Portugal, known for their historical significance and architecture, are Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal; Braga, the religious hub; Viana do Castelo, the pearl of the North; and Porto, the incomparable!
Beyond these key cities, discovering the North of Portugal also means exploring fascinating historic villages like Ponte de Lima with its medieval alleys and buildings; Barcelos with its famous rooster legend; romantic Amarante by the Tâmega River; Sistelo, the town surrounded by agricultural terraces; and Soajo with its 24 granaries overlooking the valley.
Finally, talking about the North of Portugal means also immersing yourself in the stunning landscapes of the extraordinary Peneda-Gerês, Montesinho and Alvão natural parks and the famous Douro International Park.

At SóPraSi, we believe that choosing sites is fundamental, but how you experience them makes all the difference. We rely heavily on sharing and fostering human connections. So, we enrich each program with extraordinary human experiences.
Here are some examples, completely adaptable to your tastes and desires:

Our local partner, born in the region, will share its unconditional love for local traditions, the breathtaking landscapes of Alvão Park, and the rich gastronomy of the North. They will guide you through mountain trails dotted with natural crystal-clear pools and waterfalls where you can refresh yourself (Piocas and Fisgas do Ermelo).
In addition, she will humorously tell you the legends and stories of the region’s villages. You will share an extraordinary moment of conviviality with her merchant and artisan friends in sometimes isolated typical taverns.
Finally, you will visit a renowned Vinho Verde vineyard property. There, you’ll learn about this typical regional wine while tasting its refreshing nectars!

With our local guide, a native of the area, you will embark on a fascinating journey around beekeeping.
You will walk along natural paths lined with mountain heather and a complex network of walls built by man to keep large predators (badgers, bears…) away from the beehives! You will interact with a local beekeeper, visit the hives, and experience honey harvesting.
Moreover, our partner will share mysterious and intriguing legends that are part of the memories of Mondim de Basto and other regional villages.
Further, we will add a refreshing and cultural final touch with a visit to a Vinho Verde wine estate, a unique and authentic wine produced only in the northeast region of Portugal between the Minho and Douro rivers.
Our winemaker partner will explain the terroir’s specifics, the purely native grape varieties (Arinto, Azal, Alvarinho) and their aromatic and taste qualities. At the same time, you enjoy these light, fresh, fruity, sometimes mineral wines.
Enjoy this slightly sparkling and pleasant refreshment moment!
