AVEIRO
We needed to start with Aveiro.
Aveiro means home!
It was here that everything began and Aveiro occupies a special place in our hearts. But that’s because this city is really special!
Aveiro is a small big city. It offers the best of the big cities’ dynamics and the best of the small towns’ tranquillity.
It is in the centre of everything!
It is 10 minutes away from the sea, 30 minutes away from the mountains and a little further away from the vineyards.
There is tradition, there is culture, and there is art!
A bit everywhere, some traditions are dying, but here, in Aveiro, we can still see and feel the masters of their arts.
You can meet the few salt producers that still exist, the same for the rice producers and not to mention the ceramic artisans.
But nature is also rich!
The proximity to the mountains and the connection to the water has created a rich ecosystem.
For us, passionate about this city which is home for us, Aveiro cannot be explained, it cannot be described, you have to come to discover it.
Aveiro is not something you visit, you feel it!
SEVER DO VOUGA
It is known by many as the capital of blueberries, but it is so much more!
It’s a green, quiet region that lives in perfect harmony with nature.
Visiting Sever do Vouga, is an invitation to slow down and enjoy the many things you can do here.
Here you can visit blueberry producers, see how traditional baskets are made, visit community threshing floors with their traditional granaries, find pre-historic remains, taste delicious food, and above all connect with nature.
The background noise of running water or birds singing is constant! This harmonious melody relaxes you and helps you realise how important contact with nature is.
For the more adventurous it is also here that you can try some adventure sports, from climbing to rafting. If you want a bit of adventure, but in smaller doses, you can opt for aquatic walks or stand-up paddle (SUP).
When you leave Sever do Vouga, besides missing it, you’ll be more energetic and you’ll feel better!
Do you accept the challenge?
SEVER DA ESTRELA
Serra da Estrela is one of the largest green and protected areas in Portugal!
This is where you will find the highest point in mainland Portugal, and this is also where you will find many of the most wonderful traditions.
Here the connection to the land, as a form of sustenance, is still strong.
Shepherds still take their herds to the wider areas to graze. We still find producers of queijo da serra (a typical cheese of this area, distinguished by its more “liquid/buttery” interior).
There are also products made in burel, so used by the locals, especially the shepherds.
In this region, you will get to know a good part of the essence of the oldest Portuguese traditions. You will meet friendly and generous people, who are passionate and proud of their land and their art. Here you will be able to visit lakes, and forests, and enjoy beautiful scenic landscapes.
Sadly, in 2022, a significant part of the Serra da Estrela burned down… Nevertheless, this region should still be visited! It continues to be a place of unparalleled beauty! And tourism can and should be an agent of social and economic development!
Come visit the heart of continental Portugal!
